GIVEAWAY: HOORAY! Tooth Fairy and Flicka 2 are released!

Two SUPER FUN and FAMILY FRIENDLY movies are being released on DVD and Blu-Ray disc today from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment: Tooth Fairy and Flicka 2.

In Tooth Fairy, Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock – sorry, but he’ll always be The Rock to me) plays the role of a hard-hitting, teeth knocking hockey player turned tooth collector. When  minor-league hockey player Derek Thompson (played by Johnson) who goes by the moniker “The Toothfairy” (because of all the teeth he knocks out) dashes a sweet kiddo’s dreams, he is forced to “spend time in the penalty box” as a real, live Tooth Fairy in full fairy regalia – wings, wand, tutu, tights…you get the picture. During the process, he remembers why he started playing the game and reevaluates the direction his life has taken. It’s cute and fun – you won’t fall asleep watching it and younger kids will giggle themselves silly – OK, and mayb if you’re like me, you’ll giggle a lot, too, so sue me! – though it is definitely advanced for super little ones. Adding to the story’s inherent charm is a surprising cast including Julie Andrews and Ashley Judd (I just love her – she is gorgeous – I think if I could pick one celebrity to look like, it would be her.) It’s a really sweet movie – go out and get it…or keep reading, and maybe you’ll win one….

Also released today is Flicka 2. If you saw the original Flicka movie then you’ll know that this is a movie about horses. I can say, in no uncertain terms, that Pineapple LOVES horses. Loves them. I’m not sure if this is a girl thing or what but it seems to me that an inordinate amount of young girls really like horses – anybody else notice that? Anyway, although the storyline of this film – a young girl (played by Tammin Sursok) facing the challenge of relocating to a new town and redeveloping her relationship with her father (played by Patrick Warburton) finds an unlikely friend in untamable whild horse, Flicka – is much to advanced for Pineapple, she adores watching the scenes with the horses. And it’s no wonder – this movie is really beautiful. Some of the images are really stunning – picturesque – and you soon understand that director Michael Damian must have really devoted himself to bringing this movie to life.

I had a chance to sit down with Michael Damian (@MichaelDamian1) at the Mom 2.0 Summit this past February where they were presenting a mini-screening of the film to wide praise by the audience:

Me: What made you decide to revisit the story of Flicka?

MD: I wanted to bring this story to a new generation in a fresh, new way but still keep the heart and soul of the orginal Flicka film. It’s a good message…there are challenges in life but in the end…the characters all find their way. It’s about family, forgiveness and hope and Flicka is the catalyst.

Me: What was your favorite scene to shoot?

MD: Definitely the scene with the cherry blossoms. We put a lot of work into getting that specific moment…we had to wait for just the right time for the sun to be right and the blossoms to be falling. Another was the stampede scene. There were over 110 horses just running…it was incredible.

Me: I know they say you should never work with animals or babies in film…horses are really big animals…how did that go?

MD: You really learn to trust the trainers. There were scenes where the horse would run right up on Tammin (Carrie) and she was so brave…she would just stand there…she trusted that the trainers would take care of everything and it made for some amazing shots. It was fun.

Me: Thanks for chatting with me…oh….and sorry for this but….ROCK ON!

MD: ROCK ON! (Clearly, he was a very good sport.)

I highly suggest Flica 2. It really is a beautiful film along the same vein as the classic horse and their girl stories…those are stories that we all grew up with and this new twist on a classic tale is truly very well done. We’ll be enjoying this film for a long time to come, I’m sure, as Pineapple really grows into it.

So, now here comes the fun part…since Fox was kind enough to share the movies with me, I thought it would be great to share them with you – and they agreed! WOO-HOO! They’re letting me give away 2 of EACH movie!

And, I’ve decided to get back to the basics and make this process as simple as possible; all you have to do to be entered is leave a comment. That’s it. Leave a comment and let me know which movie you’d like to see and why and you’re entered to win.

Hanes…helping the planet for future generations…one giggle at a time.

Have you SEEN the new Hanes commercial about “Hanes helping the planet for future generations?” NO?! Well, then here you go:

L….O…..L!!!!!!

I know, right?! It’s so friggin’ funny. Those kids look like they mean business and I cannot decide who is my favorite – the girl chucking the fruit loops or the tiny tot in his stroller with the super fierce eyebrow!

While the commercial might be a funny way to get your attention, Hanes is serious about their commitment to the environment.

Recently, the clothing company shared that they’d begun a new partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, introducing a promotion that gives back to consumers and the Earth. Through May 15, for every qualifying purchase of three Hanes products, and according to other guidelines (see here to learn more), Hanes will send you a free Earth Day T-Shirt and donate a dolalr to The Arbor Day Foundation. The Arbor day Foundation replants trees in America’s national forests and will be planting up to 20,000 trees – specifically in the Hiawatha National Forest in northern Michigan – on behalf of Hanes and its customers.

Hanes is commited to the environment in the production of its products, as well. Recently, the company launched a new consumer sitewww.hanesgreen.com – to share informaiton about their efforts.

I personally love Hanes products. I was tickled pink – and literally wearing my pink, long-sleeved Hanes tee – when I saw that they were sponsoring Blissdom ’10 this year. Their clothes are comfortable and I can wash the mess out of them and they hold up – that is super important when you have a kid…or a husband for that matter.

Speaking of which, Hanes is sending my sweet DH a super sweet Earth Day shirt – which is made with eco-friendly features and without bleach or dye – of his very own…and they’ve agreed to send one of you an Earth Day T-shirt, too! Want to win it? Let me know what YOU’RE doing for Earth Day and you’ll be entered to win. Tweet this to get a second entry! Become a fan of Hanes on Facebook (click the image below) and let me know you did for a third entry!

Happy Earth Day! – Thursday, April 22

The Chipmunks & Chipettes Will Rock You Like a Hurricane…or so I hear

Did you hear? Alvin & the Chipmunks – The Squeakquel is out on DVD and Blu-Ray disc today! I know this because my friends over at Fox Home Entertainment sent me a copy of the movie and boy did we watch it!…again…and again…and again. :p

The “munk-munks” as they are now fondly referred to around our house were a HUGE hit – to say the least. A while back, I did a review of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and I mentioned that Pineapple went ballistic over the preview for The Squeakquel…well, she didn’t disappoint when the movie arrived in the mail.

As soon as we put the film on and Alvin, Simon and Theodore appeared on screen, she started the squealing – and the dancing! She was jumping and jiving and bouncing around the living room and pausing every so often to squeal and scream and point at the “munk munks.” And even better? I wasn’t bored at all.

The Chipmunks are adorable…Alvin, Simon and – my favorite – Theodore. They are too cute for words and there are some really adorable, funny moments. The songs are great, too! Particularly when the Chipettes join the scene (I seriously cannot hear “Put a Ring On It” without hearing chipmunk squeaks!)

But my favorite song from the film is Alvin’s “cheeseballs” song, sung to the tune of “Stayin’ Alive.”

SIDE NOTE: We are referring to that song as “Tay Tay’s theme song” (that’s my niece) because Alvin sings about how delicious cheeseballs are and sings “Get in my belly – cheeseballs get in there!” Given that my niece has a hollow leg and can enjoy whatever the heck she wants to eat, she thinks this is hilarious!

Even though the chipmunks deal with some pretty difficult issues – like fitting in, popularity, double-crossing, missing parents, and other family problems – they are balanced by some equally silly moments – like the boys riding in the mixer as if it were a gravitron, and dutch ovens (Nooooo! Not the dutch oven!). The girls get sucked in by that ROTTEN Ian Hawke – he is a serious stinker – and despite warnings from the boys, they stick with him until they learn the hard way that he is a serious bad guy – THAT STINKER!

It’s a cute, fun movie. Don’t expect to experience any raw emotion (though you might feel some heartstring tugs when Theodore is left to sleep on his own while Alvin & Simin argue) but do expect some laughs and the undeniable urge to jump up and dance along with the “munk munks.” If you’re lucky, like me, you’ll hear some serious squealing from your wee one(s)!

Now on to the good part….want a copy? I KNOW you do! I’ve got 5 (count ’em 5) copies from Fox Home Entertainment to give away!!!

    CONGRATS!!!!

George Clooney is a TOTAL Fox..No, Really!

One of my favorite books growing up was Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. If you’re a fan of one Roald Dahl vehicle, then you most likely are a fan of others…like Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Recently, my friend over at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me a copy of this stop-motion animation movie to review…and I’ll admit…I was totally stoked – as was DH. Pineapple…meh…but us?…OH YEAH! We’d hoped to see the film in the theater but parenting didn’t allow that particular outing, so this was a wonderful treat!

The movie did NOT disappoint. From the get-go, the animation is incredible. Just imagining the time and effort that went into the development of such intricate scenes and characters is mind-blowing. Director Wes Anderson did a great job of lining up some amazing talent for the film, including the always amazing (and apparently not aging – he is h.o.t.) George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and so many others. George plays the role of Mr. Fox, and Meryl is his wife, while Jason plays their incorrigible – always wanting to both flaunt his extraordinary uniqueness while fitting in (an impossible task) – son.

The quips and comments of even the supporting characters are hilarious and keep you on your toes but it’s Mr. Fox’s undeniable charm (is that Clooney bleeding through?…definitely) that will keep you glued to the screen. His cute “trademark whistle” combined with the characters’ proclivity to say “cuss” rather than actually cussing (i.e. “what the cuss just happened?”), kept DH and I laughing the entire film. Pineapple liked the animals, referring to them all as “puppies” until she had to head to the bath.

The premise of the story is this: Mr. Fox chooses to leave his life of crime (he’s a chicken thief) behind in order to settle down with his new family – Mrs. Fox informs him that she’s expecting little Ash while they are trapped in a cage. Although it’s clear he loves  his wife and son – though he seems to struggle to understand Ash and he obviously  wishes Mrs. Fox were a little bit more forgiving of his debonair nature – he feels constrained by the grips of familial responsibility. With this emotional dilemma in mind, he decides to perform both his last and the greatest heist ever: breaking into the farms of the three meanest and most successful farmers in town – Boggis, Bunce, and Bean. Needless to say, when you have a fox in a henhouse the size of a stadium, the feathers are going to fly.

This movie may not be the best for super little ones (Pineapple is a wee bit young as yet) but older kids and the rest of the family will really enjoy the visual effects and the touching storyline (I swear DH cried even though he won’t admit it…ever…he’s a crier.)

This movie was so much fun and really, truly charming that I feel compelled to share it with you! The movie will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc Tuesday, March 23 but the folks over at Fox have agreed to provide 3 copies of the film for me to give away to you lucky readers! YAY! I love this part! So here is all you have to do:

    • Leave a comment about the film (did you see it? do you wanna? how hot is George? I mean seriously…) = 1 entry
    • Follow PineappleBabble on Twitter and let me know that you do = 1 entry
    • Become a fan of PineappleBabble on Facebook and let me know that you did = 1 entry
    • Friend PineappleBabble on Facebook and let me know that you did = 1 entry

The winners will be selected at random (using Randomizer) on March 22, the day before the movie is available, so don’t forget to check back! And good luck!

    XOXO Rachael

UPDATE: Although I wish I could give each and every one of you a copy of this film, alas, three had to be selected. Those three were chosen using Randomizer (as stated above). And without further ado…the winners are: commenter #92 Dawn L. Pasternack, commenter #33 Mandie, and commenter #52 Steph S. Congrats! Please email me your mailing address so the good people over at Fox can send you your movie.

Everyone else…be on the lookout for my Alvin & The Chipmunks – The Squeakquel giveaway – coming soon!

(another) GIVEAWAY! *Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithosonian”

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” a few weeks ago and, ‘I’m thinkin’…I’m thinkin’….’ it was pretty darned good!

Ben Stiller did a great job of bringing the comedy, again, and Amy Adams was adorable as Amelia Earhart. In general, the cast was great – Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais (as the smarmy museum curator) and Jonah Hill as the new security guard – who clearly ‘did not know who he was messing with.’

Larry (Stiller) is no longer a self-involved security guard but has achieved his inventors goals and begins the film hawking his ‘glow in the dark flashlight’ on television – ala Billy Mays. He’s wealthy and important but he doesn’t have as much time for his nighttime friends at the museum so he is caught unaware when he discovers they are to be shipped to storage at the Smithsonian. He promises to find a way to keep them out of storage and after a hilarious exchange with Brundon the NEW security guard he steals a uniform and tracks down his old pals.

All is not well, however, when a NEW pharaoh shows up expecting to take over – and he’s soooo bad, he’s turning bad guy recruits away! Like these guys:

There are all sorts of new, interactive displays in the Smithsonian – such as the artwork (they get trapped in the sailor kissing the girl – I think D-day – picture in one scene), a cherub fountain (voiced by the Jonas Brothers), bobble head Einsteins, as well as a fast-talking and saucy Amelia Earhart (Adams).

I won’t give it all away but it’s action-packed, really cute and best of all, educational. Kiddos will get a kick out of the pharaohs, soldiers, cowboys, and other fun characters come to life.

Teddy R. (Robin Williams) is Larry’s guide, once again, dispensing indispensable wisdom and the movie ends on a definite hight note so no one has to go to bed worried or disappointed. It’s fun and funny and a great family film – perfect for the holidays.

The movie will be released on December 1 (that’s Tuesday) but if you pre-order the DVD on Walmart .com it’s only $9.98 AND there is FREE shipping.  Since the retail value is $29.98 – it’s 20 bucks off and you don’t even have to step into a store. You can check it out here: http://tinyurl.com/ygbmm7t

But for a limited time, you can enter to win your very own copy (OK, OK, I guess you could give it to the kids) which includes a gag reel, Curators of Comedy: Behind the Scenes with Ben Stiller, the Cherub Bootcamp, deleted scenes (including an alternate ending) and other fun features.

It’s super simple to enter (just like all of my giveaways). All you need to do is tell me which character you liked from the movie – or which you’re hoping will show up again, if you haven’t seen it yet, and then become a fan of Pineapple Babble on Facebook (http://tinyurl.com/yh7d7wf) – don’t forget to tell me you have!

Pineapple will pick 5 winners on December 1 (that’s Tuesday) – the day the movie will be released. So enter to win! And good luck!

WINNERS UPDATE: Winners of the Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian DVD are Kim, Heather Garland, Rob Laundry, Michelle Pendergrass, and DadLogic! CONGRATULATIONS! Please email me your addresses so I can get those shipped out to you. Hope you enjoy it!

    *GIVEAWAY – eos – GIVEAWAY*

Do you know what ‘eos’ stands for?…Evolution of Smooth. And they mean it, too.

EOS gave away some fabulous shave cream and amazing lip balm at BlogHer 09 and I quickly became addicted.

Not only does their Ultra Moisturinzing Shave Cream totally live up to the promise of being so moisturizing that you can shave wet or dry, but it smells clean and is creamy – not a foamy mess. I’ve tried the Island Blue, Cucumber Melon, and the Sensitive Skin (fragrance free) versions but I can’t wait to get my hands on the Vanilla Bliss and Lavender Jasmine. All of them also have antioxidants to help skin look smooth and refreshed – and goodness knows, at my age I can use as much antioxidant power as I can get my hands on! Also, they’re not overpriced! At about $3.50 a bottle, they’re worth every penny – they last FOREVER. I just used the last of the bottle I received at BlogHer a few weeks ago. It just kept going and going. And the bottle is soft, recycleable plastic – making it easy to grip in the shower and it doesn’t leave a rust ring in the corner. The texture is more like a lotion than a shaving cream – it’s not gel-ish or foamy at all – it’s creamy and thick and easy to apply. It’s also cute…and I’m a total sucker for packaging…take for instance the Organic Smooth Sphere Lip Balm…don’t even get me STARTED! (OK, get me started….)

First, it’s organic…nice, right?! Then you get flavors like Sweet Mint (little slice o’heaven) and Summer Fruit (a light, citrusy scent that doesn’t make you feel like you’ve been sucking lemons)…seems too good to be true, huh?! And to top it all off, it’s packaged in a cute little sphere that sits on my nightstand table and is easy to grab and use in the middle of the night – when my lips need some moisturizing. When I first saw it, I thought ‘now this is odd..how am I supposed to apply this round ball to my lips?’ But honestly, it’s super easy to apply and makes my lips feel nice and kissy (so says DH). Happy feature?…Pineapple loves the shape of the ball and pretends to put on the lip balm and smack her lips…priceless!

I’ve purchased the Honeysuckle Honeydew Lip Sphere (sounds yummy, huh?!) for stocking stuffers and I thought you might appreciate some stocking stuffers of your own – so, eos has agreed to let me give away 2 BUNDLES of their products!!!! (LUCKY YOU!) They were kind enough to send me the Sweet Mint Lip Sphere, the Summer Fruit Lip Sphere, the Cucumber Melon Shave Cream, and the Sensitive Skin (fragrance-free) Shave Cream…and you can win a similar bundle! All you have to do is follow the instructions below to enter and you can have some awesome stocking stuffers…or fill your own stocking…shhh….I won’t tell!

*GIVEAWAY* Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs *GIVEAWAY*

    thumbnail

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was released on DVD yesterday and in my personal opinion, if you have kids and you haven’t seen it yet, you’re missing out.

Granted, Pineapple is still a bit ‘wee’ for movies – she does not sit through them – but we often have a cartoon movie playing in the background early on Saturday and Sunday mornings while she plays in the living room. It provides a little background noise and she will sometimes pause whatever activity she is involved in to glance at the TV – making it impossible for us to watch more adult fare – like Twilight…WHAT?!

Anyway, Fox recently sent me a copy of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and last Sunday morning when Pineapple and I made our way upstairs, providing DH with a few extra zzz’s, we decided to pop the movie in the DVD player while we played. Following is a synopsis of how the viewing of this movie went:

    • The trailers started and Pineapple immediately LOST IT over the preview for the upcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks movie – the “Squea-quel.” Too cute, right?! We’ll be watching that one for sure.
    • Following this theme, as soon as Scrat the squirrel appeared on the TV, she was hooked. I don’t know what it is about little bug-eyed things but she loves them!
    • This movie consists of Manny’s obsessive “I’m gonna be a daddy” issues and Diego’s “finding himself/mid-life crisis” with a little “Sid needs to stop adopting random kids” sauce for extra flavor. I don’t want to give away too much of the plot so this summary of the primary themes will suffice.
    • Pineapple ate breakfast while the movie was playing and each time the baby dinosaurs, Sid or Scrat appeared, she giggled and pointed and made “oooh-oooh-dat-dat” noises. She was pleased.
    • I thought the humor was fantastic! There is a scene when the characters are trapped in a gas cloud that is priceless. Also, the graphics are outstanding! There is a scene where Sid is thrown into a pond that is amazing – it looks absolutely real.
    • As the movie ended (and I surreptitiously dabbed at my eyes with a paper towel so DH – who had joined us by this time – didn’t know what a sap I am – as if…) the credits rolled to “Everybody Walk the Dinosaur” as sung by Queen Latifah. Pineapple danced her little hiney off to the song – so much so that when it stopped playing, we backed it up and played the song again and I have since downloaded it for future play in the car.

I thought this movie was great. It’s being added to our permanent collection and I’m sure Pineapple will enjoy it for years to come.

Now to the good part…want a copy? Fox is providing 5 copies of the movie for me to give to you! All you have to do is leave a comment on my site about your favorite character in the Ice Age movies – or your kids’ favorite. That’s it! I can’t make it any easier! Pineapple will be picking the winners – I’m printing out the comments and literally having her pick them out of a hat.

    Ready…set….GO!

Dawn of the Dinosaurs - World's Largest Ice Sculpture

UPDATE: Did you know that in celebration of the movie release to Blue Ray and DVD, 20th Century Fox broke the Guiness World Record for tallest ice sculpture?! It was 4 stories high (48’8″ tall)! WOW! Here is a pic!

    mail

But I think Pineapple would have enjoyed this guy skating around more than the sculpture! : ) Go Scrat Go!

OK – comment away – and GOOD LUCK! It’s a great movie!

WINNERS UPDATE: Following a VERY scientific process, during which Pineapple selected from balled up strips of paper, the following winners were chosen to receive a copy of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Earth_Mommy, ImmeBlue, Peaches, Heather Garland, and Michelle Pendergrass. Please email me with your contact information so I can get those DVD’s shipped out to you! And CONGRATS!!!
